Description |
The principal aim of Serious School Aid is to provide urgently-needed educational resources to schools in Albania. We plan to distribute to the 11,323 pupils identified in our evaluation, the basic materials indispensable to effective study (pens, pencils, crayons, exercise books ...) We also intend to equip the 35 schools with wall boards and black boards. Secondly, we will be performing an hour-long circus-style show at the schools we visit. This show consists of a mixture of comedy, acrobatics and music with an educational theme throughout. The Serious Road Trip's success with similar circus work in the former Yugoslavia and Romania has shown that children benefit significantly from activities such as these which are designed to promote self-confidence and imaginative thinking. Thirdly, we aim to initiate a letter writing network between Albanian children and children in other countries. After 45 years of isolation, the possibility of an exchange with the outside world is new to all Albanians. This novelty is doubtless one of the reasons why so many teachers expressed the wish to put their pupils in contact with children from "outside". |
