Description |
Despite the improved political situation in the Gaza
Strip, serious problems remain. Children and teenagers only
spend 4 hours a day at school, and have only limited
opportunities to take part in sport or cultural activities.
As a result, children spend their spare time either at home
or hanging about on the streets. Inactivity and aggression are
a constant reality for the youth of Gaza after 26 years of
occupation and seven years of Intifada (uprising).
TSRT aims to improve the situation by increasing access
to sports facilities. In the populated areas, in co-ordination
with the Palestinian municipalities, we aim to:
- establish open playgrounds with universal accessibility
in Gaza, Deir El Balah, El Quarara, Nusseirat and Rafah.
- train municipal sports educators to be able to organise
the different games and activities in the playgrounds.
- allocate basic sports equipment (balls, nets, goal posts).
In the existing sports clubs, we propose to provide, with
professional expatriate trainers, training for the coaches
in the most practised sports (collective and contact sports),
and to allocate basic sports equipment.
In order to improve sports activities for girls, we want
to provide:
- supplementary training for the girls' sports teachers.
- complimentary training of the "sports facilitators"
set up in the schools by UNRWA.
- training of female coaches for women's sports
activities in sports clubs.
- distribution of equipment for 2 sports halls
(in Gaza and Khan Yunis): primarily for use by
women and children.

Remarks |
The permanent equipment (goal posts, floodlights, concrete
slabs) will be manufactured by local companies. The sports
equipment (volleyballs, footballs, nets...) will be purchased
in the Gaza Strip. |
